From Lost Trust to a Successful Global Launch

How DigitalBee Labs transformed Matteo Brioni's digital presence with a high-performance, multilingual e-commerce website built for a global audience

From Lost Trust to a Successful Global Launch

The Challenge

Matteo Brioni was preparing for an important global event and needed to replace its existing website with a completely new digital experience before the event.

The existing website had become slow, outdated and difficult to maintain. More importantly, the client's previous experience with development providers had left them deeply frustrated and cautious about working with developers again.

The challenge was therefore bigger than building a new website.

The client needed a technology partner who could understand the importance of the project, work closely with the creative and internal teams, execute with precision and deliver against a fixed global-event deadline.

When DigitalBee Labs became involved, there were approximately six months until the event.

The timeline was tight. The expectations were high. And the margin for error was small.

The objective was clear:

Create a high-quality digital experience that represents the Matteo Brioni brand globally, while rebuilding confidence in the technology team behind it.

The website was being professionally designed by a UK-based brand specialist and creative director, while the Matteo Brioni team provided the business, product and content expertise.

DigitalBee Labs was responsible for transforming that creative and business vision into a robust, scalable and high-performing digital platform.

A New Digital Foundation

The project involved much more than a visual redesign.

The new platform needed to bring together content, projects, products and e-commerce into a single modern digital experience.

Key components included:

  • A completely new custom responsive website
  • CMS-based content management
  • E-commerce functionality
  • Payment gateway integration
  • Tax integration
  • Multilingual support
  • Product and project migration
  • Content restructuring
  • SEO-conscious website migration
  • Performance-focused development
  • A scalable technical foundation for future growth

The client also had several strict, non-negotiable requirements based on their previous experience.

No shortcuts

The new website needed to avoid custom code being embedded into page builders, ensuring the implementation remained structured, maintainable and scalable.

Performance above the competition

Performance was a key requirement. The new website needed to achieve a higher level of performance than a leading competitor with a bespoke website.

Protect existing SEO value.

The migration needed to preserve the website's existing search visibility and organic traffic while restructuring products, projects and content.

Multilingual from the foundation

The platform needed to support an international audience and provide a solid multilingual structure rather than treating additional languages as an afterthought.

E-commerce built properly

The introduction of e-commerce required payment gateway integration, taxation considerations and a user experience that remained consistent with the overall brand.

Design precision

The development team needed to faithfully translate the work of the brand specialist and creative director into a responsive, functional and production-ready digital experience.

For a client who had previously experienced difficulties with development providers, these requirements were particularly important.

The website needed to be right technically, visually and operationally.

A Fixed Deadline With a Moving Starting Point

The original project plan was built around the global event.

The agreement was to begin development approximately four months before the event and complete the development at least one month before launch.

That final month was deliberately reserved as a buffer for:

  • Client acceptance testing
  • Content validation
  • Final refinements
  • Performance optimisation
  • Issue resolution
  • Launch preparation

The buffer was important because the event date was fixed.

However, as the design phase progressed, it became clear that the creative work and data mapping required additional time.

The final designs and product/project data structures were not yet ready for the development team to begin everything as originally planned.

The easy option would have been to delay development.

But that would have consumed the critical testing and launch buffer.

So we changed the approach, not the commitment.

DigitalBee Labs assessed the situation and restructured the development workflow, so our team could begin working on the areas that were ready while the design and data work continued.

This allowed the creative team to complete the additional work they needed without simply moving the entire development timeline forward.

It was an important early decision.

Rather than waiting for the perfect starting point, we created a way to keep the project moving.

Working as One Team

The project brought together three different groups:

Matteo Brioni: business, product and content expertise

UK-based brand specialist & creative director: brand, creative direction and visual design

DigitalBee Labs: technology, engineering and implementation

The success of the project depended on these teams working together effectively.

We therefore avoided treating development as a separate phase where requirements were simply handed over to engineers.

Instead, we worked closely with the designers and the client's internal team throughout the process.

We aligned priorities, clarified questions and addressed issues as they emerged.

Because the project involved teams in different countries, DigitalBee Labs also aligned its working hours with both Italy and the UK, allowing the different stakeholders to collaborate more efficiently.

This helped reduce communication gaps and allowed decisions to be made without unnecessary delays.

Engineering Behind the Experience

The visual design was only one part of the challenge.

The platform needed to support a modern content structure, e-commerce, multilingual content, product and project information, SEO requirements and performance expectations while remaining manageable for the client after launch.

DigitalBee Labs therefore approached the project with a strong focus on:

Performance

The website was engineered with performance as a core consideration rather than something addressed at the end of development.

Maintainability

The implementation followed a structured approach designed to avoid fragile page-builder customisations and unnecessary technical complexity.

Scalability

The platform was designed to provide a foundation for future improvements, additional functionality and continued growth.

SEO preservation

Migration and restructuring were approached with the existing search presence in mind, helping minimise unnecessary disruption during the transition.

Responsive experience

The new design needed to translate effectively across desktop, tablet and mobile experiences while preserving the intended visual direction.

The objective was not simply to reproduce the designs.

It was to make the technology serve the design and the business.

Detail Matters

One of the defining characteristics of this project was the level of attention required from the development team.

The client had high expectations for design accuracy and functionality.

Small details mattered.

We therefore adopted a working style where questions were raised early rather than making assumptions.

When something was unclear, we clarified it.

When a requirement could be interpreted in multiple ways, we discussed the intended outcome.

And when we discovered that we had interpreted something incorrectly, we took ownership and made the additional effort required to correct it.

Our goal was to resolve issues without unnecessarily affecting the client's timeline or budget.

For us, this is part of what professional engineering means.

Good development is not only about writing code correctly. It is about understanding what the client actually needs the technology to achieve.

Bringing Agile Into a Design-Led Project

With multiple teams, evolving requirements and a fixed launch date, visibility was critical.

DigitalBee Labs introduced an agile approach and facilitated project management throughout the development phase.

This gave the stakeholders greater visibility into:

  • What had been completed
  • What was currently being developed
  • What required clarification
  • What needed to be prioritised
  • What could be planned for a later phase

This also allowed changing requirements to be handled more constructively.

Rather than allowing every new request to disrupt the launch plan, we worked with the client to understand its importance, assess its impact and determine the right phase for implementation.

This helped keep the project moving while maintaining a clear path for continued improvements.

Managing Change Without Losing Momentum

As the project progressed, requirements naturally evolved.

Additional ideas and improvements emerged as the client and stakeholders interacted with the developing platform.

Some requirements were incorporated into the initial delivery.

Others were identified as better suited to a second phase.

The important part was that these changes were not allowed to create unnecessary uncertainty.

We clarified them, assessed priorities and planned them accordingly.

This meant the original launch objective remained protected while creating a clear roadmap for future improvements.

And something important began to change.

The relationship was becoming less about managing risk and more about exploring what could be built next.

Trust was beginning to replace uncertainty.

The Launch

DigitalBee Labs completed the agreed development scope and brought the new Matteo Brioni website live in time for the client's global event.

The new platform brought together:

  • A completely redesigned digital experience
  • Professional responsive implementation
  • CMS-driven content
  • E-commerce capabilities
  • Payment gateway integration
  • Tax integration
  • Multilingual functionality
  • Product and project migration
  • Restructured content
  • SEO-conscious migration
  • Performance-focused development
  • A scalable foundation for future development

But the most meaningful outcome was not a feature list.

It was confidence.

A project that began with a highly cautious client evolved into a trusted technology partnership.

What We Brought to the Project

An expert team

We allocated an experienced team capable of handling a demanding, design-led digital transformation.

Attention to detail

We listened carefully and treated the details as important as the bigger picture.

Proactive communication

We responded to queries, raised questions early, and proactively clarified requirements.

Ownership

When something needed to be corrected, we took responsibility and made the additional effort to resolve it.

Adaptability

When the design phase required additional time, we adapted our development approach rather than simply allowing the overall project timeline to slip.

Agile delivery

We introduced structured project management and agile practices to maintain visibility and simplify prioritisation.

International collaboration

We aligned with both UK and Italian working hours to support the different teams involved in the project.

Long-term thinking

We approached the initial delivery as the foundation of a longer technology journey rather than a one-off website build.

A Partnership Beyond Launch

The successful launch was not the end of the project.

DigitalBee Labs continues to support and maintain the platform, working alongside Matteo Brioni as the digital experience continues to evolve.

What began as a high-pressure website transformation project has developed into an ongoing technology partnership.

For our team, that is the real measure of success.

We don't just want to deliver a project.

We want our clients to feel confident that they have the right technology partner beside them for the journey ahead.

The DigitalBee Labs Approach

We are not simply a technically capable development team.

We take the time to understand our clients, their objectives, their challenges and the journey they are trying to build.

We work with our clients, not simply for them.

Because successful technology is not only about writing good code.

It is about understanding the business objective, making the right decisions at the right time, communicating clearly, taking ownership and creating the confidence to move forward.

For Matteo Brioni, that meant taking a project that began with understandable caution and turning it into a successful launch and an ongoing partnership.

From a new website to a renewed partnership.

That's the kind of technology relationship we are proud to build at DigitalBee Labs.
